Our Etsy Craft Party was just over a week ago, and I still can't believe how many turned out to support crafting in our community. I teamed up with the amazing Mary Cantu of spare parts, a local nonprofit that's all about supporting arts education in San Antonio through creative reuse. Mary and I have been great friends for years now, and she was the perfect partner for this event!
We also had an amazing team of volunteers and sponsors who helped make the night a success. The super-friendly folks at Geekdom opened up their community space to us. They were super excited to support the local craft community and we couldn't have asked for a better space.
I also teamed up with Goodwill of San Antonio for the bulk of our craft materials. They generously provided a ton of keyboards for us to take apart and get our tech-craft on--as well as supplies to make these fun keyboard pencil jars and magnetic chalk trays for display. And winners of our craft bingo even won some Goodwill gift cards. You all know the thrift store is my favorite source for craft supplies, but I also love how much Goodwill supports the San Antonio community--you can read more about the good things they're doing at GoodwillSA.org.
The scrumptious Arugula Catering donated a mouth-watering spread of organic yummies for guests to enjoy, paired up with some gourmet cupcakes by Sweet Chela's.
And did I mention the music?? DJ Despeinada provided some old school tunes (think Whitney Houston, TLC) for us to get our craft (and a little dancin') on too.
Throughout the event guests also crafted up their own Geekdom crowns, upcycled name badges, designed DIY projects for local teachers, and even contributed to the very first exhibit of the Mini Art Museum--and awesome idea Mary dreamed up (think artist trading card size canvases in a mobile gallery).
The night was a huge success, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. A huge thanks, also, to David of ArtGives.org who helped capture the evening in video (I can't wait to see it) and photographer Chris Castillo for the awesome photos below:
Thanks again to Mary and her awesome team--and all our wonderful guests! Check out the spare parts Facebook page for even more photos of the event (and give them a thumbs up while you're there, too).
