The boys were long overdue for some haircuts, and although I was kind of digging the long-haired hipster look it just wasn't getting clean. Skyler was so proud of his haircut and has been combing it dutifully; it's funny how important things like hair gel become when you're a budding preteen (gulp!). Liam went back and forth between loving and hating his haircut (he really wanted a mohawk). And after many many failed attempts at combing it into a hawk he's decided it's easier to keep it nice and neat (this mama is relieved he came to that conclusion without a fight).
And I unintentionally came up with a way to make packing the boys' bags easier for our road trip. I'm a last-minute packer--which doesn't help with a family of six--and the kids really wanted to pack their own bags. Rather than take on all the responsibility myself, I drew out a packing list for Liam with the number needed for each item. I really didn't think much of it as I was drawing it (I'm no artist, either), but it worked like a charm! The boys had their bags packed up in no time! I did double check to make sure everything was in there, and switched out a couple things, but I think this is definitely something I'll do again.
And last but not least, the boy's have adopted a snake. Liam has been fascinated reading up on snakes at home, and when the fire chief at Chris' station offered to catch one for him, he was over the moon. It came home with us last week and the kids were so excited you would have thought it was Christmas. I know the snake isn't very happy, though, and I'll definitely be happy when it's gone. But it's good to see Liam so eager to take care and learn more about snakes in the meantime. He's a lover of all things creepy crawly. Grasshoppers, spiders, worms, snails, you name it, he's caught it. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
What have your boys been up to?
