We began keeping chickens two years ago, and although we still have a few of the original ten, we usually buy a handful more each year to have enough eggs for our large family.
Ours have already passed the cute and fluffy ball stage and have moved on to looking like little dinosaurs stretching out their necks. We’re keeping them inside in a makeshift mini-coop with a heat lamp for now. The weather’s still a little cool for them and we haven’t introduced them to the big hens yet. Muffin our cat is incredibly curious and even sits on top of their tub in the evenings (it’s one of the warmest spots in the house). We definitely have to keep our eye on her while they’re little, but she’s a big scaredy cat around the full-grown hens. We picked out two types of Ameraucaunas, and will hopefully have some beautiful blue eggs to enjoy come summer!
