What a wonderful giveaway! I have been a huge fan of The Nields for 10+ years now -- predating their involvement in kids music! Music has always been important to my family. My grandfather is in a nursing home and no longer able to hold conversations the way he used to; over the holidays, we got a crew of about 13 family members together and visited him there and held a little concert for him. He sang along and tapped his hands and toes the whole time, while I got to dance with my new baby niece... It was so special to share family time with both of them through music -- no words needed!

The kids and I love to sing together. We do it all the time. I just purchased a piano book to teach the kids piano. I"m a little rusty myself, so we'll all be learning together. I want to cater to their love of music, as much as possible.

We created several radio stations on pandora that we listen to in the living areas/kitchen on our roku. We dance and sing randomly throughout the day whether we are making lunch, doing chores or just hanging around.

I also play guitar or piano sometimes after dinner and sing.

We've dedicated Tuesday mornings to "music exploration". I have a collection of instruments that I use in my music therapy sessions and so I pull those out and let the kids explore. Sometimes we make live music ourselves and sometime we play along to music in the background.

Thank you for the wonderful post! I learned in my Music Together training that the most influential voice on kids is their own guardians. They will learn music skills about things like pitch/rhythm/etc best when they hear live music and by their guardian (whether the guardians think they can sing or not! It doesn't matter!). I find that very interesting.

I look forward to finding that book and reading it.

We sing in the car on the way to preschool. Every time we finish a song, my 1-yr-old claps! How do they know to do that? We had a blast singing Christmas songs last month and are missing that. My preshooler asked this morning, "do you know any January songs?"

What if we are totally lacking all musical ability? That is us! I think 'keeping the beat' would be a good chapter for us since most often we are offbeat :)
