First up on my mending list for the month was a diaper cover that’s been in need of repair. I tackled the project during naptime the other afternoon and decided to take a few photos as I went.
I thought I was going to have to replace the elastic completely, but it turns out it had simply come loose, making my job a lot easier!
I know this may not be relevant to all of you reading this, but on the off chance that you use the same kind of diaper covers and ever need to fix up the elastic, here’s a little photo-tute to help you along:
Now just add a cute baby!
(And stay tuned for more mending.)
Thanks! That was helpful. I've been needing to do some myself but putting them off. Now that I've seen inside it seems like not that hard of a job.
no problem! it was super easy, and it definitely doesn't have to be perfect–thanks for stopping by!
Brilliant!! These covers can be really expensive, so mending makes sense! I linked to your tutorial on Craft Gossip Sewing:

awesome! thanks for sharing–and for stopping by!
I have the same cover with the same problem…maybe I'll attempt, thanks!
Will you do a tutorial on replacing the BG/Flip aplix tabs? That is what I need! I'll probably replace elastic at the same time though!
Joyous–I hope you do! There have certainly been times for me when one more clean diaper cover would have made all the difference–and it's pretty simple to repair!
Mrs. Haid–I'm not planning on another diaper repair tutorial, but I found these links that might help:
The Natural Mommy has a tutorial on replacing the velcro for bum genius diapers
Cotton Babies sells bg refresher kits
And KamSnaps.com has a snap conversion tutorial on their site, too.
I hope you're able to fix them up!
Any ideas on how to repair the PUL that has cracked??
Carl & Steph–unfortunately I don't. I have learned that you should NEVER put PUL material in the dryer. Yeah, I've made that mistake a time or two! Thanks for stopping by!
Hi, I am from New Mexico. I have 2 flip diaper covers that have the same problem with the elastic around legs.I am not good at sewing (and actually dont have a sewing machine :p) I already got new elastic. I was wondering if I could mail them to you to be repaired. In that case, how much would it be? (I could mail you the flip covers along with a check including shipping cost) Please let me know 😉
hey Nadia! I would love to help. Send me an email at makermama@gmail.com and we'll talk details. If you could send me a photo of your covers that would be great!
I see that you say never to put the PUL in the dryer, I do but I never use High heat, always Medium or Low. Do you know (aside from cracked PUL) what repercussions this may have on the diapers? Thanks!
Hey Jennifer, thanks for you comment! I think air drying your covers just helps the PUL last longer. Either way, it will eventually wear down. I have some that I've been using for about 2 1/2 years that are finally biting the dust.
