I’m taking part in the super-awesome Plastic Canvas Blog Hop hosted by Diane Gilleland (aka Sister Diane) of CraftyPod this week. When she put the call out for pc crafters I jumped at the opportunity. I have a little obsession with plastic canvas crafts (especially quirky thrift store finds), and I’ve been a big fan of CraftyPod for years now.
The hola piece can be used as a hanging picture or a welcome mat.
To make your own chair, sign, and mini cactus you’ll need some scissors, a permanent marker, needle, fishing line, and embroidery thread in your favorite colors.
And your plastic canvas of course. My favorite place to buy mine is at the thrift store (keeping it as green as possible). I used a 10 squares per inch sheet for all the pieces, but it doesn’t really matter what size you use.
I even whipped up a little pattern for you to print and trace your own. You can download the patio set pattern here.
Place your canvas over the pattern printout and trace the outline on your chair piece. Cut only around the outer edges; the inner lines are where you’ll fold the chair to help make it dimensional.
Use your needle and fishing line to tie the chair arms to the front sides of the seat, and fold and stitch the legs in place. You may need to trim the chair legs due to shifting when you stitched them in place, just snip a little at a time so it doesn’t get to small.
To finish, take your embroidery thread and stitch around the rough edges.
For the sign, I just added some stitching and used a fabric marker to write out the letters, embroidering over the original stitches.
For the cactus, I wrapped the thread around and secured it periodically. Cut a rectangle in your desired size for the pot, securing it in a circle with fishing line, and wrapping it in embroidery thread and attaching the cactus.
And there you have it, a little Fiesta flare for your dollhouse!
Be sure to check out the rest of the projects in the blog hop, more will be added through the 17th:
