Today marks the first day of Advent on the Catholic liturgical calendar, so I thought I’d share my favorite family advent calendar with you. Truth in the Tinsel: An Advent Devotional for Kids is a 24-day ebook devotional that takes you through the biblical story of Jesus’ birth, with a Scripture passage and ornament craft for each day.
As a Catholic mother, teaching my children the true meaning of Christmas is important to me. Some days–even years–it’s easier to share that with them than others, but Truth in the Tinsel has been an easy resource to help me do just that.
In the past, we’ve always done our daily reading and activity in the evenings. I have the pdf downloaded to my iPad and gather the supplies together during the day. Here’s a peek at what each day looks like:
I love that it has a paragraph for talking about the Scripture passage with your kids. It’s all about having a discussion to deepen understanding. The crafts are fun and my kids loved making them, although we do reuse our original ones now.
The daily devotions also come with a set of printable clues to get your kids excited about reading the story for the day. You can see a fun way we used the clues (and read more about the ebook) here.
