I have a weakness for cute collectibles from the thrift store. I’ve had these sweet kissing angels for a while now, and they have yet to find the right space in my home, so they’ve been packed away for ages. When HP contacted me about their 3D printing campaign, I knew I wanted to take a favorite vintage find and give it new life, and it was the perfect time to bust out this little duo.
I’ve enjoyed using the all in one desktop Sprout by HP to save my kids’ artwork and create my own digital vision board, but creating a tangible 3D object is a whole new level of fun (and really impressed my kids)!
After experimenting with the 3D Capture Stage, I was able to scan and print my angelic duo on the Dremel 3D Idea Builder and turn them into 3D printed ornaments. So if I decide to pass along the originals, I can still enjoy their vintage goodness on my Christmas tree! Check out my video to see the HP Sprout and 3D printer in action!

Working with the 3D Capture Stage to create a 3D object was definitely a bit of a learning curve (not all objects scan as well as others), and there was a snafu with the printer clogging up at one point. But when I called Dremel’s service line, I reached somebody within seconds who was able to email me detailed instructions on how to fix the printer myself within 30 minutes–best customer service experience ever.

The 3D printed ornaments themselves came out surprisingly detailed–it’s amazing how you can virtually design your own 3D object with no 3D design and programming skills needed. I can’t wait to hang my modern vintage ornaments on my tree!
