Here are the supplies you’ll need:
- Colored denim (from your local Goodwill)
- Fabric scissors
- Cling wrap
- Mod Podge–I used the hard coat kind
- Paintbrush
- Large vase, lamp, or some other form for your centerpiece
Start by cutting up your jeans into leaves.
Cover the bottom and sides of your base with cling wrap. I decided to use a large thrifted lamp to make a larger centerpiece; I just took out the light fixture and wiring.
Use your paintbrush to coat each leaf with Mod Podge. Overlap the leaves on the sides and then work up the sides. Stop adding leaves once you reach the widest section of your base–if you taper your leaves back down then it will be next to impossible to take it off.
Afraid the Mod Podge has dried (I helped mine along with a blow dryer before I let air outside for a couple hours), gently pry the denim from the cling wrap–I ended up using a long knitting needle to get between the layers. Then slide the centerpiece off the vase.

I’ll be making more in several different sizes and colors, but I’m so pleased with how these turned out! Add in a few battery-operated lights and you’re ready to go! What color would you make these in?
