About the Artist | Amy Lynn Johnson

Amy is a San Antonio-based, self-taught artist whose sculptural practice centers on sustainability and material transformation. Using reclaimed materials, she creates three-dimensional forms that explore shape, texture, and the imaginative potential of objects.

Her practice incorporates a range of low-waste processes and materials, including recycled cardboard, plastic, papier-mache, and handmade paper clay developed from reclaimed newspaper. Through layering, sculpting, and surface experimentation, she creates richly textured forms that balance structural durability with a sense of lightness.

In addition to her studio practice, Amy has a long-standing background in arts education, writing, and community-based creative programming. Her work has been exhibited in group shows and featured in national publications. Deeply influenced by the natural environment, her work examines how discarded materials can become expressive, enduring forms—reframing ideas of value, consumption, and environmental responsibility.
